Some people doing home automation may know but I thought this may be an under-utilised tool.
Most people started their home automation journey by adding smart lights. I love that too. You can get the lights to turn on or off by Google Assistant, Siri or Alexa. The smart lights manufacturer may have their own app to enable the users to change colour temperature and some automation like on / off schedule, etc.
Another way of automation is built into Google Home , Apple Home and the equivalent in the Amazon world.
Not every home automation user is aware of IFTTT. It used to be a completion free service for home user. Now there is a limited free option, but they have added the pro and pro+ plans. I still think most people still find the pro plan affordable and worthwhile.
The benefit of using IFTTT rather than individual app or Google/Apple/Amazon automation is that it can be an aggregate of all smart gadgets and services and enable them to cross communication.
A very practical example is their suggested automation for vacation. They will propose how to plan the vacation by saving travel articles to your favourite “read-it-later” service. The site can enable you to log the exchange rate every day to Google sheet. You can set up your new iOS photos to Google Drive. Or save photos from Instagram to camera roll.
One of the most useful trick is to get an email from Department of State issues a travel warning or to get an alert from World Health Organisation.
I have no association with IFTTT.com and I am a fully paid member of the pro plan. However, I thought it is worthwhile to share the travellers suggestion from them. Hope you would find this useful.
